About Siolim House
A Country House in Rural Goa, once a Governor’s Home, now a Ten Room Boutique Hotel in Goa
Casa Palacio Siolim House is a 350 year old Heritage Hotel in Goa, built in 1675. It is a Palacio that dates from the earliest times of the Portuguese occupation of Goa, beautifully restored as a home which, now doubles as a private ten room heritage boutique hotel in Goa.
Surprisingly hidden from view behind a tall row of Ashoka trees, the house understates its stature as one of Goa’s most unique and oldest manor houses. There are very few examples of the aristocratic late 16th century ‘casa do sobrado’ style of Goa-Portuguese architecture remaining in North Goa. The manor once housed the governor to Macau, and a family of administrators that included a governor to Mozambique. We are classified a ‘Heritage’ Boutique Hotel in Goa by the Dept of Tourism, and situated in the quiet coastal village of Siolim, Goa. We are perfectly placed for the lovely beaches just to the north of Morjim, Ashwem, Arambol and Mandrem beaches and the action of the Candolim – Calangute – Baga – Anjuna beaches to the South.
As a unique Heritage boutique hotel in Goa, we operate with a sensitive philosophy to our village, its culture and our surroundings. One reviewer described us as ‘lacking artificiality’. Others describe us as ‘understated’ and ‘elegant’. We have received many great reviews about our boutique hotel, but we are not searching for that – what really counts for us is to make our guests truly enjoy their time in our boutique hotel in Goa.
Call us a boutique hotel, but we are still a home and a “non hotel”, unlike a hotel in many ways. We aim to expose guests to what Goa really is all about – an aromatic distillation of Indian and old European Portuguese cultures, through our family-oriented approach to hospitality. Goa is not experienced in the manicured lawns of a luxury hotel but rather from the close quarters of slow-paced village and country life. It is about deep unbroken traditions, amazing Goa heritage homes, delicious local cuisine based on a mix of indian spices and European influences. Finally it is about the friendliest people, and an open, tolerant and happy society. If you are looking for this, you may find it in and our heritage boutique hotel in Goa.
In 2001, Siolim House was a finalist for the UNESCO Heritage Prize, which considered its exceptional history and the work we did to restore this building. In 2009 we completed a second renovation to bring back more detail and more features to this heritage hotel in Goa.
We continue to receive accolades and awards, but our greatest pride and joy is when you, dear guest, are able to enjoy our hosputality and experience more than twenty five years of care we have put into this heart-felt project.
