MAPUSA FRIDAY MARKET

Mapusa Market is open everyday but Friday is when its at its best. Its a riot of colours of ambulant merchants, of villagers selling plants nd animals, shops selling silver and goa, gypsies, fruits and vegetable seller and a lot more. It is very local so quite different from the Saturday Night Market. You could buy fabric and get yourself some nice clothes made for a fraction of the cost. Ask us for recommedations for a tailor. Reward yourself after with dinner at one of the best restaurants in North Goa.

NIGHT MARKETS

The best night market for us the one in Arpora. Its been going for years, is well organised and has a variety of stalls including traditional handicrafts, silver jewellery, traditional and cool Goa clothing, but also highly crafted artisan ware, and new age hippie things. There is also a great variety of food stalls, open air bars and bars and live music that goes till late. Besides this there is the Wednesday Anjuna market – the original hippie flea market that goes on in the day and since recently a Friday ‘Collective’ market featuring ‘hippie meets hipster’ food, activities and things to buy.

SIOLIM AND PERNEM MARKETS

Siolim has a weekly market in the Church Bazaar just a short walk from SIolim House. Its a traditional market featuring home produced and grown food, like greens grains, vinegar toddy and the like. The Fish Market at Tar is very interesting, as its a hive of activity in the morning when the canoes come in and fish, especially fresh and large ones are snapped up at small fortunes. There is a larger fish market where the fishing boats come in at Chapora Jetty, at 4PM. On Saturdays is the traditional market of Pernem. Also for daily necessities unlike that of Mapusa it is nevertheless a nice excursion.
